EV CHARGING

Driven by the growing demand for faster and more efficient charging solutions, Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology is being increasingly adopted within the industry. As the EV market continues to expand, the technology is key in the development of a robust and sustainable charging network.

From low-power wall boxes up to megawatt chargers – SiC solutions are available across a wide range of power levels. Vincotech supports various state-of-the-art topologies used in each of the power stages in a DC fast charger.

Use case: megawatt charging for heavy-duty vehicles

As the world shifts towards cleaner energy solutions, the need for efficient charging systems has become increasingly critical. This is where Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS) for heavy-duty vehicles like trucks, buses, and construction equipment come into play. Capable of delivering one megawatt or more, megawatt chargers significantly reduce the time required to recharge heavy-duty vehicles, allowing them to remain operational for extended periods.

Megawatt system architecture:

  • DC-coupled system at 1500 Vdc, simplifying integration of renewables and ESS
  • Centralized PFC stage, or SST connected directly to MV grid and modular DC/DC stage
2.x kV SiC MOSFET Half-Bridges:

Reduced system complexity by enabling 2-level operation with 1500 V DC link voltage

  • Latest SiC MOSFET technologies with high blocking voltage up to 2.3 kV and low on-resistance
  • flow E3BP baseplate based module, or flow E2 with direct copper bonded (DCB) substrates
  • Improved power cycling capability with advanced solder technology
  • Excellent thermal performance with AlN, or Si3N4 for longer lifetime
